7 Steps to Choosing the Right Mobile Computer Cart
Work through each step in order. By Step 7 you will have a clear specification to share with our team or use to select directly from our collections.
Identify Your Sector & Environment
The environment where the cart will be used determines the construction standard, surface finish, and feature set you need. Match your sector first before considering any other specification.
- Office & Corporate — Prioritise ergonomics, aesthetics and height adjustability. Sit-stand and gas-spring models suit hot-desking, shared workstations and meeting rooms. Browse Office Carts →
- Industrial & Manufacturing — Prioritise durability, cable management and stability under continuous shift use. Heavy-duty carts with CPU storage and reinforced frames for shop floors, MRO bays and quality inspection. Browse Industrial Carts →
- School & Education — Prioritise mobility and flexibility. Sit-stand models for teacher workstations; AV carts for classroom presentation and training rooms. Browse Education Workstations →
- Healthcare — Prioritise clinical-grade construction, EHR/EMR compatibility and easy-clean surfaces. HSC series, dental carts and telemedicine carts for ward, clinic and diagnostic environments. Browse Medical Carts →
Choose Your Cart Format
Cart format determines the physical configuration and what equipment the cart can carry. Select the format that matches your primary use case.
- Laptop cart — Compact, lightweight, keyboard tray and cable management. For ward rounds, classroom use and mobile office environments where a laptop is the primary device.
- Single monitor workstation — Monitor mount, keyboard tray, CPU holder. Standard desktop or AIO setup for office and industrial workstations.
- Dual monitor workstation — Two monitor mounts for data-intensive roles — trading, engineering, diagnostics, control rooms.
- AV presentation cart — Adjustable shelves for projectors, displays and AV accessories. Classrooms, training rooms, conference spaces and lecture halls.
- Medical computer cart — Clinical-grade construction with EHR/EMR access, medication drawer options and infection-control surfaces.
- Telemedicine cart — Dual-screen configuration with HD camera integration for remote consultation and diagnostic environments.
Select Your Height Adjustment Mechanism
Height adjustment is one of the most important decisions. It determines ergonomic flexibility, cost, and suitability for shared vs dedicated use.
- Fixed height — No adjustment. Lower cost, maximum stability. Suitable for single-user dedicated workstations where height never needs to change. Best for industrial and clinical environments with a fixed operator.
- Manual sit-stand (handle/lever) — Adjustable via a handle or lever mechanism. Suitable for environments where height changes occasionally — between shifts or between different users. MCT10 and MCT10B are RIFE's primary sit-stand models.
- Gas-spring / pneumatic — Effortless one-touch height adjustment via a pneumatic cylinder. Best for shared workstations used by multiple operators throughout the day. RIFE MCTGW and MCTGB are gas-spring models.
- Electric / motorised — Powered height adjustment. Contact our team for availability on specific models.
Confirm Monitor & Device Configuration
Confirm what device or display the cart needs to support before selecting a model. Weight capacity and VESA compatibility are the two key technical checks.
- Laptop only — Requires a keyboard tray and cable management. No monitor mount needed. LPC series (LPC04B, LPC05, LPC06B) are RIFE's dedicated laptop cart models.
- Single monitor + keyboard — Standard configuration. Confirm monitor size (typically up to 27”) and VESA pattern compatibility with the cart's monitor mount.
- Dual monitor — Confirm total monitor weight and VESA patterns. Contact our team to confirm which RIFE models support dual monitor configurations for your specific screen sizes.
- AV / projector equipment — Use an AV presentation cart (MCT04) with adjustable shelves rather than a monitor-mount workstation.
Assess Power Requirements
Most mobile computer carts are non-powered — they rely on power outlets at the point of use. For environments where continuous operation away from fixed power is required, powered options are available.
- Non-powered (standard) — Cart plugs into a wall outlet at the point of use. Suitable for most office, industrial and classroom environments where power is accessible.
- Integrated power strip — Some models include a built-in power strip for routing cables cleanly. Confirm with our team for specific models.
- Battery backup / UPS — For healthcare environments (ward rounds, point-of-care) and warehouse environments where the cart moves away from fixed power points. Contact our team for battery-equipped configurations.
Mobility & Locking Requirements
All RIFE mobile computer carts are fitted with castors. The key decision is whether you need lockable castors and what castor size is appropriate for your floor surface.
- Standard castors — Suitable for smooth floors (office, clinical, classroom). Swivel castors for full manoeuvrability.
- Lockable castors — All RIFE carts include lockable castors to secure the workstation in position during use. Essential for clinical, industrial and classroom environments.
- Heavy-duty castors — For industrial environments with uneven or rough floor surfaces. Confirm with our team for specific industrial models.
- Anti-static castors — For ESD-sensitive environments (electronics manufacturing, server rooms). Contact our team for ESD-rated configurations.

FAQ
Buying Guide FAQ
What is the most important factor when choosing a mobile computer cart?
Your deployment environment. Office, industrial, school and healthcare environments have different requirements for construction, ergonomics and features. Start with Step 1 of this guide to identify your sector before comparing models.
What is the difference between a sit-stand cart and a gas-spring cart?
A sit-stand cart uses a manual handle or lever to adjust height. A gas-spring cart uses a pneumatic cylinder for effortless one-touch adjustment. Gas-spring models are better suited to shared workstations where height changes frequently throughout the day.
Do I need a powered cart?
Most deployments use non-powered carts that plug into wall outlets at the point of use. Powered carts with battery backup are primarily used in healthcare (ward rounds) and warehouse environments where the cart moves away from fixed power points.
Can RIFE supply mobile computer carts in bulk for a large deployment?
Yes. RIFE supplies to enterprises, hospitals, schools and government institutions across India. Contact us for bulk pricing, custom configurations and GST-compliant invoicing.
How do I confirm VESA compatibility for my monitor?
Check your monitor's VESA pattern (typically 75x75mm or 100x100mm) and weight. Contact our team with your monitor model and we will confirm compatibility with the relevant RIFE cart.
